Education
A traditionally based education.
Queen's Square offers an education that seeks to foster the highest standards of personal and academic achievement, with English and mathematics at its heart.
Individual and unique
A Queen's Square education helps children develop a passion for exploration and creativity in their learning.
This is reflected in a keenly competitive spirit within a house system, where children are rewarded equally for effort and for achievement. In turn it instils good manners, kindness and an active concern for the needs of others.
We aim to develop rounded individuals, able to go on to successful careers and lives in a rapidly changing world.
The early years
In the Foundation Stage, from two to five, pupils are given a broad and exciting introduction to many areas of learning.
Mathematics and English are at the heart of the curriculum. The ability to read is the cornerstone of a child's education. From it flow writing, grammar, spelling, problem solving and general knowledge, which connect every other area of learning: science, languages, the humanities, the arts and sport.
Computer awareness starts early too, mixing the best of the old and the new to prepare each child for the next stage of their education.
The school curriculum
English and mathematics are part of every day's timetable. Pupils learn the cornerstones of literacy, spelling and grammar, and to handle numbers easily and with confidence. Short weekly tests in spelling and mental arithmetic let children earn house points for effort and achievement.
Alongside English and mathematics, the curriculum includes science, ICT, history, geography, modern languages, music, art and sport.
Continuous assessment, formal and informal, takes place throughout, including an introduction to formal examinations.
Teaching and learning
Teaching and learning help children explore their world and give them the tools and skills to build confidence and a sense of achievement. A balance of coordinated activities and independent choices lets each child develop at their own pace.
Every child is unique, and every pupil receives individual attention. This helps them discover and develop their strengths, and uncover any weaknesses early, so that the right plan can be made for them.
We believe that to succeed in life children need to be good team players, in the classroom and on the sports field, and we encourage this at every level.
